Before we even got to the idea of climate change, we asked ourselves: what can we do? The idea of climate change is all about complicated and serious topics like the earth heating up, oil, gas, coal, international treaties etc.…
Like us, you must be thinking, wow! This is serious and feels overwhelming. What can I as one person do? Part of understanding what each of us can do means we have to rethink how we look at important issues like climate change.
Over a 100 years ago a newspaper asked famous writers and journalists “what is wrong” with the world. The world was about enter into World War I, there was a flu epidemic, and there were many other issues. Sound familiar? Writers/journalists responded and wrote back with all the expected issues: poor leaders, illness, violence, greed, poverty etc.… all issues that were larger than any one person. The everyday person must have felt overwhelmed.
In the middle of all of these responses, one writer allegedly sent back a simple response “I am wrong”. He was the writer GK Chesterton. This was an eye opener because when you take that and apply it to ourselves, we suddenly realize that we have to look at what we can do to make the world better, not the big issues we cannot solve. We must and can each contribute to solving these issues. We really believe that. Combined, each of our efforts will have a meaningful impact.
So, let’s start by understanding what is happening and how we can help.
