making a difference
Ava Rosandic and Anton Rosandic are high school siblings that are passionate about making a difference in the world. They decided that it is never too early to start. One of the issues that is always making headlines is climate change. We hear about carbon footprints, carbon emissions, global warming, rising sea levels, the Paris Agreement, fossil fuels etc… The topic can be intimidating. The impact and potential solutions are discussed in broad terms that cover countries, continents, and our entire planet earth.
When you add our polarized politics where no one seems to be able to civilly discuss important topics, it became even more difficult. We wondered about all of this and asked can we as individuals/high school students, make a difference? Even if we could make a difference, how? The topic is complicated, emotional, and seemingly beyond us. Or is it? Could a couple of young people work with other young people to make the topic less complicated, take out the emotion between competing groups, and bring it down to an everyday level with solutions?
We believe the answer is a resounding yes. Many people believe that they can’t change the world, or their attempts to are useless. But that’s not true- every person who decides to make a change can help to save the planet. Whether it’s through recycling, volunteering, donating, etc., we as individuals can make a change, no matter how big or how small. We only have one earth, and it’s time we set out to help the environment.
After considering the options, we decided that setting a nonprofit corporation that could raise money to help educate young people as well providing a platform for open dialogue about climate change and everyday solutions. So we formed Klimate Xchange as a California non-profit corporation. We are a 501(c)(3) organization which means that donations are tax deductible.
